Charterචාටර්
Charter is the universal umbrella term for anything that brings on public embarrassment, a massive fail, or deep cringe. It perfectly captures the sinking feeling of losing face in public, getting called out for doing something cheap, or realizing the highly anticipated event you attended is actually incredibly boring.
It is a highly flexible word: a situation can be lame (charter), someone can intentionally humiliate you (charter karanawa), or you can just feel a deep sense of shame (charter wuna).
Examples
Person A: "Did you finally ask your crush out yesterday?"
Person B: "Yeah, and she said she sees me as an older brother in front of all her friends. පට්ට චාටර් එක බං (Patta charter eka ban / It was an incredible embarrassment, bro)."
