Submission Guidelines
SriLankanism is built by its community. These guidelines keep the dictionary useful, honest, and respectful for everyone.
What SriLankanism is
A community dictionary of Sri Lankan slang, internet culture, memes, and expressions in English and Sinhala. It documents how language is actually used, not how it should be used.
What belongs here
Submit words or phrases that are genuinely used: slang, colloquialisms, internet phrases, meme language, and expressions with a Sri Lankan character. Standard dictionary words don't belong unless they carry a unique local meaning.
Write to be understood
Write clearly enough for someone unfamiliar with the word. Usage examples are especially helpful as they show how and when a word is actually used.
Humor and creativity are welcome
Cultural commentary, wordplay, and wit make a great entry. You don't have to write like a textbook, just be honest and clear.
Don't target people
There is a difference between defining a term and targeting an individual. Entries that exist to harass or expose a specific private person will be removed. Don't include names or contact details of private individuals.
Mark NSFW content
If your entry contains explicit, sexual, or offensive language, toggle the NSFW switch before submitting. Unmarked NSFW entries will be flagged during review.
How review works
Every submission enters a queue and goes live after an admin approves it. Don't submit the same word multiple times.
