Waliyaවලිය

Sri Lankan slang for a fight, argument, brawl, or "beef."

A waliya can be anything from a massive physical fistfight on the street, a heated Facebook comment section war, or a petty argument with your partner over where to eat dinner.

Examples

Person A: "Machan, come to the junction quickly, drop whatever you are doing!"
Person B: "Why, what happened?"
Person A: "මාර වලියක් යන්නෙ! (Mara waliyak yanne! / A massive fight is going on!). Two tuk-tuk drivers are throwing hands, the whole town is watching."
